Email Login/Delivery Delays, CatMail Opt-in Temporarily Suspended

Additional capacity has been added to the UA email system to address the recent performance issues.

Monitoring throughout the recent nights and early this morning indicates that the email delays we experienced this week have been alleviated.

The Email Incident Response Team will continue to monitor performance and will open CatMail Opt-In as soon as possible, based on the continued stability of the mail systems.

Update! 11/4/09 9:40 a.m.

The UITS Email Incident Team continues to work on resolving the email delay issues.  Further testing is required.  In order to complete testing one of the email servers must be restarted.  This may cause email delivery delays of up to two hours beginning at 9:30 a.m. this morning.  At this time, we do not anticipate issues logging into WebMail.  Further updates will be available on the 24/7 website (http://247.arizona.edu).  We appreciate your continued patience.

5:00PM, Tuesday, 11/3: The University Email and Webmail systems continue to experience intermittent service delays since Monday morning, November 2.  At 9:20 p.m., Monday, all email queues were cleared and all email was delivered. Service delays began again this morning at approximately 10:00 a.m.

UITS has formed an Incident team to identify and resolve the email problems as quickly as possible. In order to diagnose the problem more efficiently and eliminate all possible causes, several internal processes, including the CatMail Opt-In and mail migration processes, have been temporarily suspended.

You may continue to experience delays in sending or receiving email until the issue is resolved.  An update will be posted at that time on the 24/7 website (http://247.arizona.edu). We apologize for the inconvenience this causes and greatly appreciate your patience.
