- Is switching to CatMail mandatory?
Answer: Yes, for students. All student email will move from the University-hosted system to CatMail, powered by Google Apps for Education, December 20, 2009. Students may opt to move to CatMail earlier, between November 2 and December 19, if they choose. The University email address (yournetid @ email.arizona.edu or yournetid @ u.arizona.edu) is still the official mode of communication between the University administration and all students. The address will not change. Important official email notices may be sent to students periodically so it is your responsibility to monitor your UA email account for such messages. If you don't have your own computer you may check for email messages by using computers at OSCR Computer Labs and elsewhere around campus. See: http://oscr.arizona.edu.
Faculty and staff email is not moving to CatMail. Faculty and staff may opt in to CatMail to gain access to Google Apps, but their email storage and delivery will remain on the University-hosted system.
- How do I opt in to CatMail?
Answer: Visit: http://catmailoptin.arizona.edu. Your CatMail account with access to Google Apps will be created, new email will be delivered to your CatMail account, and your email in your University-hosted email account will be queued for migration to your CatMail account. After opting in, you can go to http://catmailoptin.arizona.edu again to see the status of your migration. Even after you are through the University's migration queue, there may be a delay of up to 24 hours before all your old email appears in your Mail on Google, as Google processes it in batches.
- What if I close my browser/my browser quits in the middle of opting in?
Answer: Your email routing will still have immediately changed from the University-hosted service to CatMail. Go to http://catmail.arizona.edu for your new email. UITS staff will ensure that the rest of the migration process happens as well.
- How do I log into CatMail once I have an account?
Answer: Log in at: http://catmail.arizona.edu. Use your UA Net ID and password at the WebAuth log-in window. The first time you log in to your account, Google will have you go through a confirmation page. After your first login, all future logins will take you directly to your account. You can also log in to land directly on your Calendar page at http://catcal.arizona.edu, or your Documents page at http://catdocs.arizona.edu.

If you have difficulty getting Apple Mail to work, try following these steps: br>
On your Mail page in Google, go to Settings. Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP and enable IMAP.
In Apple Mail, go to Create a New Account. At the first screen, type in yournetid@gmail.com and your secondary CatMail password. Click Next.
Apple Mail should test the account settings, and should tell you it failed at something. Click Continue to continue setting up the account.
The incoming mail server screen should be mostly filled in. Make sure to name the account CatMail. Check that the incoming service is imap.gmail.com and change the username to yournetid@email.arizona.edu. Click Continue. Mail should try and verify the account settings again, and should be successful.
Leave the SSL box checked and click Continue.
Now the outgoing mail screen. Check that the outgoing server is smtp.gmail.com, that Requires Authentication is checked, that the login name is yournetid@email.arizona.edu, and that the password is filled in with your secondary, CatMail password. Click Continue. It should again verify the settings and they again should work.
Leave the SSL screen alone. Click Continue.
If everything was done correctly, the account should now function properly. The last thing to do is to go back in to the account settings and change the general account email address from yournetid@gmail.com to yournetid@email.arizona.edu.
